New experimental information from the world of neuroscience indicate that humans and other mammals share the same brain architecture for emotions, and some basic emotions. Also, emotions in humans underlie all thought processes.
What might this new knowledge contribute to the way that photographers feel and think about emotions in their photography?
A successful photograph connects people in some way. Many photographers aim to convey a sense of place or moment. This desire for connection is both intimate and uniquely human.
As an abstract photographer, I aim to directly express an emotion that can transmit itself to others in an image and its title, and so enable emotion, thought and story-telling in response. However, also as an abstract photographer, I understand that very often what is seen in my photographs is not exactly what I had consciously wanted to communicate.
For me, this is one of the magic aspects of Photographic Expressionism. I believe that the photo above provokes both emotion and thought. What do you think?
